September Mood '24

September has arrived at our doorstep and we have to admit, we are finding ourselves yearning for candle light, knits, and crisper air. But just a little bit. In this month's issue we're sharing an incredible project that we came across. It's situated far away from everyday life, overlooking the ocean in New Zealand. This is a place to revive, reconnect and recharge. Further more, as temperatures are starting to drop, we're wanting to spend more time in the kitchen. Hence, this read is heavily food influenced spanning from art, food and beverages to activities including snacks. On that note, you might want to prepare yourself a coffee and snack before you continue reading this month's mood. Enjoy!

Seascape Retreat
Pattersons architects in New Zealand have truly created a sanctuary when they designed the Seascape Retreat. Scaled down to blend into the surroundings, using building materials from the site, it's the perfect place for relaxation and connection with yourself, your other half, and nature.

Max Ososki
UK and France based Max Ososki interprets all things food and drinks in her artwork using a combination of painting and collage with paper clips, letters, etc. that she has collected over the years. The food industry has been a constant source of inspiration to her and she's also been commissioned to design wine labels and alike.  To her, colours are central to her creative process and the foundation of her work. She often finds herself spending hours on making adjustments to get the right hue of a colour to create that moment where each element click into place.

Charlotte Cardin
Lately, Canadian singer-songwriter  Charlotte Cardin's music has been playing on repeat. Her smokey voice, powerhouse range, and personal lyrics paired with an effortless cool is the perfect cocktail for tunes we can't get enough of. As an artist, she doesn't want to be labeled, but instead sees her musical journey as ever redefining. Charlotte says, "..as humans, we’re constantly evolving, but as an artist, you have the added responsibility of not taking who you are as a given, and you have to keep challenging and reinventing yourself. The fact that I’m always questioning everything is what I think allows me to write good music.”

Spicy Cheddar and Apple Sandwich
It's September and that means fresh local apples! The obvious choice (and still a perfectly good one that you need to make this fall) is apple crisp, but let's see if we can be a little more creative than that. This spicy cheddar and apple sandwich is just what we've been looking for. Sweet  apples, spicy jalapeños, and delicious melted cheddar with a bit of crunch from potato chips. What's not to like. Try this as a lunch, or just because you're feeling snackish. Regardless, we're confident it'll hit the spot.

Plum Gin
Plums are in season so why not give making your very own plum gin a go? It's easy peasy simple to make and fun to offer your guests (or keep it to yourself if it's too good to share) in a classic GT or a Gin Sour. All you need is a little bit of patience as you wait for the flavours to fully develop.

Take a Hike
September promises perfect temps for day hikes. Let's lace up those hiking boots and find a new trail to explore. Sara recently went to Elk Island Provincial park here in Manitoba and can highly recommend checking out this beautiful trail. It's approximately 17 km if you take on the full loop and a mix of beaches and single track through the forest. And yes, it is an island so there will be some wading included. On the bright side, you will have it mostly to yourself (unless everyone reading this decides to check it out on the same day!) as most people settle with the beach before the crossing over to the island. It's a hidden little gem, if you ask us.
