November Mood '24

Welcome to November, daylight savings, and cravings of all things soothing for the soul. In this edition of Monthly Mood we're featuring a lovely 1960's Modern home  in the English country side, comforting, melting in your mouth slow braised pork shanks, and a bedspread project that could turn into a fantastic gift this Holiday season. We highly recommend checking out Glenn Arvor's instagram account for floral eye candy, which can be found through the article we've linked to below. Here's to a (fingers crossed) mild November, and we hope you enjoy our inspiration for you this month.

Ansty Plum House
Ansty Plum was designed in the 1960's by David Levitt and has been lovingly restored by Sandra Coppin who specializes in restoring modernist landmarks through the company Coppin Dockray. This isn't just another project for her though, but their family house where she loves spending the fall and winters with her children, making jam and taking long walks. David Levitt's design took inspiration from the mono-pitched roofs seen in Provence, France, and the proportions of the house are dictated by the size of a brick and an uncut piece of Douglas fir veneer. Nothing has gone to waste when building this house.

White Wine Braised Pork Shanks
Slow cooked and fall of the bone dishes - there's nothing better to sooth your soul this time of year. These white wine braised pork shanks are prepared using lovely fall veggies and promises a whack load of flavours. Topped with lemon zest and fresh parsley, our preferred way of serving this is alongside a creamy parmesan polenta soaking up all those flavours.

Pomegranate Gin Fizz
There’s something about pomegranate that brings out the anticipation of the holiday season approaching, don't you think? This simple, yet refined cocktail is the perfect beverage to indulge with on a nippy fall evening.

Bojagi Inspired Bedspread
Looking for a slow evening project for the month of November? Set your creativity loose with giving this bedspread a go! By using scraps and/or thrifted textiles (or new fabrics) you can really play around with the look and create a truly unique piece. Draw up the design, including size, to create a visual before jumping into cutting and sewing. Remember to have fun, using fabrics in your favourite colours and patterns!

Mrs Harris Goes To Paris
Mrs Harris Goes To Paris is a historical comedy drama taking place in the 1950's, and dare we say a fresh take on movies about fashion. The movie is an adaptation of the 1958 novel bearing the same name, and here we follow Mrs. Harris, a widow and hard working cleaning lady. She falls madly in love with a Christian Dior dress and decides she has to have one of her own. We follow her as she works to gather the funds and embarks on her adventure in Paris. It's a movie about friendship, generosity and how out-of-your-comfort-zone experiences can be eye openers. The movie is available to watch on Netflix.
