December Mood '24
We're bringing you all the joy this December - the month of festivities! Stunning cabins made for a winter wonderland, treats bursting with seasonal flavours, a couple of crafts that will put you in the Holiday spirit, and more! December is a month of delight, in which we like to focus or time on spending it with our loved ones, both friends and family. It's a time to be merry, to enjoy those small but special moments. Haus Gapfohl
Imagine snow on the mountains in the background and waking up with that as your view on Christmas Day! Situated in the Austrian alps, the Gapfohl house by Bernardo Bader Architects embraces the simple way of living while focusing on the experience of the place it is situated in. It's compact living with 861 square feet, but yet it feels spacious with the living and cooking area combined into one continuous space. The hut even has a sauna on the second floor, so there is no shortage on comfort here. Constructed out of a concrete slab and cross-laminated timber with a rough sawn larch siding, this is a building that will age and patina beautifully.

Amy Stewart
Growing up in 108-Mile House, now Vancouver based Amy Stewart draw inspiration from spending most of her time outside in nature as a child. Reflected in her paintings are her memories of childhood and nature as well as her day-to-day life. The rich texture of her artwork is always accompanied by the mood she is in when painting. They can be light and vibrant or dark and moody, nudging the viewer to look inwards. Her paintings are an extension of her and her experiences in life and they are absolutely beautiful.

Baby Baby & Welcome to Shirley's
Baby Baby and Welcome to Shirley's are two new restaurants opening in Osborne Village soon and we can't wait to try them out! They will split the property that was the original Basil's and renovations are in full swing. Baby Baby is the new "baby" of Raya Konrad who also co-owns Clementine Cafe. Need we say more? Welcome to Shirley's is Renee Girard's first restaurant but she is not a newcomer on the Winnipeg food scene. You might recognize her as the lady behind Made by Paste. Her delicious small batch handmade food can be found in various deli stores across Winnipeg and she is also know for supplying superb dishes to various events at breweries and workshops. Can you tell we're very excited for these two restaurants to open up their doors?
Holiday Concerts
What brings more joy than a Holiday concert in an atmospheric setting? That ought to bring out the Holiday spirit in even the Grinch. Here, in Winnipeg, we have plenty of options and we have our eyes on Handel's Messiah, A Traditional Christmas Concert, Christmas With The Boys, and Candlelight: Christmas Special. We think each and one of those would be a real treat to both the ear and eye.
Spiced Gingerbread Loaf
The very essence of Holiday flavour if you ask us. Moist with warming spices, what's not to love about a lovely slice of gingerbread loaf. It's perfect for breakfast on a cold December morning, or with a warm cup of tea in the afternoon. We prompt you to give this a try and promise that your home will smell just lovely while it bakes.

White Cranberry Mulled Wine
Easy to whip together. Super decadent to look at. The flavours are pretty decent too! All you need is white cranberry juice, a bottle of Pinot Grigio, cinnamon sticks, fresh cranberries, an orange, a few rosemary sprigs and 20 minutes. It's the perfect warming drink when you're having company over this Holiday season.

Dramatic Orange Slice Candle Holders
These look fantastically dramatic, yet are super easy to make. A winning combination that would look stunning on your Holiday tablescape. It requires a tall candle holder, an empty paper towel roll, a hot glue gun and dried orange slices. All you do is place the roll over the candle holder and glue the orange slices on to the roll and voilà, dramatic candle holder done.

Elf
By now a Holiday classic, Elf is a hilarious movie starring Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel (amongst others). Billy accidentally crawls into Santa's bag on Christmas Eve as a toddler, gets transported to the North Pole and is raised by Santa's elves. We follow his journey as he travels to New York as and adult in search for his real father. It's a classic, chaotic, Will Ferrell starred movie that is sure to have you laughing to tears. It's available to watch on Crave, or in select cinemas.
