May Mood '24

Spring vibes, Milan design show, and great designs coming your way in May's Mood. With Salone del Mobile just finishing in Milan and Petit Magasin in full swing, this read is heavy on design. Nothing better than that, no? We've also made sure to sneak in our regular features and this months drink is nothing less than a complete vineyard. Bella Wines, as a matter of fact. If you haven't tried their wines you are in for a fantastic treat. If you can resist reading on, perhaps picking up a bottle of theirs and returning to read this at a later point with a glass in your hand would be the way to enjoy this months mood.

Salone del Mobile - Milan
This year's Salone del Mobile Milan  AKA Milan design show recently took place and where several of our brands launched new and exciting pieces. Bensen had quite a lineup including a wooden coffee table and armchair, and a new sofa  as well as extending the line in existing families.  Muuto were not short of new products either and most exiting was their new table lamp Set, a collaboration with Canadian designer Jamie Wolfen. Carl Hansen had some noteworthy launches as well, including expanding the Sideways family with an armchair and coffee table (available October 2024) as well as a children's version of the famous CH24 Wishbone chair. On Moooi's account, Big George launched, a new sofa family currently available as an armchair and a double seater. Another light fixture was also added to their collection, Tubelight, a suspended light that bends the rules of lighting - literally.

Little More House
A collaborative project between MEGarchitects, Kim Kniepp and Sawsee, Little More House was designed with the intention of creating connections at it's very core. Not only between the people collaborating on the project, but also for the family inhabiting the space.  This family home is built for its occupants to be able to live intentionally and in connection with each other. Further more, it contains passive energy principles, a green roof, and energy-efficient lighting. It's a home that celebrates sustainable living. It's a gorgeous build drawing inspiration from the older homes on the Mornington Peninsula originally built using materials from shipwrecks.

Tony Tascona
Born in St. Boniface, MB, Tony Tascona's style as an artist was fresh and bold with diverse surface textures and open compositions. While working at Canadian Aerospace Industries and later AirCanada, he developed an interest for industrial material which he explored as an artist. Over the years his work moved from its dense, organic nature to a more crisp style with clear lines. We find that his work suits and compliment modern design furniture very well and are pleased to highlight an incredible local artist such as Tony Tascona.

Thom Bargen Tuxedo
Local coffee roaster and shop Thom Bargen recently opened up their fourth location in Tuxedo. This location boasts a patio and parking, and similar to their Little Italy location, you will find baked goods and a small food menu alongside their coffee offerings. As always, not only do they serve great coffee, but they do so in a beautifully decorated space with great interior design. Find them at
2090 Corydon Ave.

Petit Magasin
The market is in full swing and running until May 12. Opening night was a success and a wonderful evening of honouring the incredible creatives participating. All items can be shopped either in person or online for out of towners. If something has caught your eye, we suggest not to linger as items usually go quick.

Grilled Asparagus Pizza
We should soon be able to get fresh locally grown green asparagus, and this dish is a lovely way of enhancing this delightful spring veggie. Simple and few ingredients such as mozzarella and a lemony gremolata compliments the asparagus well and really makes it the star of the show.  That the pizza is finished on the grill surely adds to the spring vibes as well.

Bella Wines
Bella Wines is a boutique sparkling wine house situated on the edge of Naramata on the eastern shore of Okanagan Lake, BC. They specialize in creating bubbles and
incorporate holistic and regenerative farming practices to produce high-quality wines while prioritizing environmental sustainability and ecosystem health. Their bubbles come in all colours (white, rosé, red), and Winnipeggers can find a selection at Ellements Wine & Spirit, or you can order directly from the vineyard. They make three styles of sparkling wine; traditional, ancestral and fortified, and their wines are truly delightful with a complex palette.  Next time you are celebrating a special occasion, we suggest you do so with a bottle from Bella.

Clay Propagation Holder
DIY your very own propagation or flower arrangement holder in perfect time for spring blooms. This is such an easy project with a high design factor. The best of both worlds! By using self-drying clay, it's something everyone can make in their home. This would look beautiful holding cut offs of some of the seasons first pansies.

Fallout
Based on the video game with the same name, this series
created by Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet is a post-apocalyptic drama taking place in the aftermath of the Great War of 2077. Many of the survivors hid in vaults beneath the ground unaware that the vaults were designed to perform sociological and psychological experiments on the inhabitants. In the series, we follow Lucy as she decides to leave the vault and venture out into the wasteland in search of her father.

Ripley
Premiered on April 4, this black and white psychological thriller based on Patricia Highsmith's novel The Talented Mr. Ripley received critical praise across all categories and particularly for Andrew Scott's portrayal of Tom Ripley. Many of you may recognize that this novel was turned into a movie staring Matt Damon in 1999, but it has now been re-created as an 8 episode limited series. With great reviews, this is a must see.
