April Mood '25

Fresh takes on older homes, blooms and spring greens - That's what we have in store for you this month. We don't even have words for how THRILLED we are that spring seems to have arrived in Winnipeg. It's time to shed some layers, enjoy a coffee or cocktail outside and feel the sun on our faces. Welcome April!

Elemental House
Named London's home of the year 2025 by the UK initiative Don't Move, Improve! the Elemental house is a 1970's split level home that has gotten a beautiful upgrade with the help of architect studio Archmongers. Both exteriors and interiors have been upgraded with an extension added on to the rear of the house. It is stunningly executed with attention to material and craftsmanship, and it shows. Materials used in the project are brick, steel and warm wood elements. We love the idea of renovating and adding an addition rather than selling and moving. Simply, improve over moving.

Don't Move, Improve!
The annual, now in its' 15th year, Don't Move, Improve! competition celebrates the best home improvement projects across London and is held by New London Architecture. It's such a great initiative, highlighting home improvements and what can be done with an existing building. You don't always have to build from scratch, and rather, renovating can give you the best of both worlds in our opinion. A fresh look combined with beautifully aged design details.

Rachel Bottomley
The works of Rachel Bottomley are very spring appropriate with gorgeous floral motifs. Through her eyes the viewer explores the untamed and wild beauty of the natural world. Her slightly whimsical paintings are full of life and colour and you can't help but to be drawn to them. Born and based in the UK, there's a very distinct British cottage vibe to Rachel Bottomley's work that we adore.

Jack Cocker
Jack Cocker, born in 2001 in Norwich, Ontario, is an emerging artist recognized for his figurative and landscape paintings that delve into themes of genuineness, connection, spirit, and memory. His work often portrays familiar scenes from Southwestern Ontario and Quebec, aiming to evoke curiosity and personal connection. He often allows his paintings to evolve, meaning he creates a paper study first, that later gets transferred with added (or removed) details to a larger piece or a canvas. We're curious to follow his journey as an artist and see what future artworks he will create.

Fiddlehead, Pea & Asparagus Salad
We should be seeing fiddleheads coming into season in April as well as asparagus, so what better way to indulge in them with this fresh salad. Perhaps you'll simultaneously dust off your barbecue if you haven't already. The lemon and mint dressing and goat cheese balance this salad nicely and it's a lovely side dish to whatever you're barbecuing. It can also stand alone as a light lunch with a slice of toasted sourdough.

Mezcal Michelada
Smoky and spicy, this cocktail features lager beer, lime and agave which makes this a perfect drink for transitioning from winter to spring. It's a great combination of fresh and comforting to sip on your patio in April. Although, you might have to still keep your jacket on.

Peanut Butter Easter Eggs
Make your own eggs completely from scratch this year! This is a perfect (and delicious) creative project for humans old and young. Think Reese's peanut butter cup but home made and in egg shape. The blue Robin's egg colour made with naturally dyed white chocolate is super pretty, but can be substituted for milk or dark chocolate. Impress friends and family this Easter by treating them to these edible eggs.
